Happy is one of the effects reported most often across our strain catalogue. It lines up with what Health Canada lists among the short-term effects of cannabis: euphoria and a sense of well-being. Here is what the tag can and cannot tell you.

What the Happy Tag Means

The effects on our strain pages are what sources describe for each strain: a report, not a measurement or a promise. A strain tagged happy is one that people describe that way, and the same strain can feel different to different people, or to you on a different day.

What Health Canada Says

Health Canada lists euphoria (feeling high) and a sense of well-being among the short-term effects of cannabis on the mind.

The same list of short-term effects from Health Canada also includes confusion, anxiety, fear or panic, and impaired memory, concentration, attention and reaction time.

Before You Choose by Effect

Strain type is not a shortcut either. The Ontario Cannabis Store notes that indica and sativa describe the plant, and that plant type may not be the most reliable indicator of potential effects; cannabinoid content, terpenes, consumption method, amount and your own tolerance all play a part.

How you take it changes when an effect arrives. Health Canada says smoking, vaping or dabbing can be felt within seconds to minutes, while eating or drinking cannabis takes 30 minutes to 2 hours, and effects from either can last up to 24 hours.

Happy in Our Catalogue

We publish 3,352 strains reported as happy, 93% of the catalogue, averaging 21.3% listed THC (57% hybrid, 33% indica and 11% sativa). The terpenes listed on them most often are caryophyllene, myrcene and limonene. Their most common flavour notes are earthy, sweet and fruity. The other effects reported for them most often are relaxed, euphoric and uplifted. Effects and flavours are what sources report for a strain, not measurements.

FAQ

Can cannabis make you feel happy?
Health Canada lists euphoria and a sense of well-being among its short-term effects. It also lists unwanted ones, including anxiety, fear or panic, so the experience is not guaranteed.
What does it mean when a strain is tagged happy?
That sources describe the strain that way. It is a report, not a measurement, and individual experience varies.
Is a happy strain indica or sativa?
Type is not a reliable guide. The Ontario Cannabis Store notes plant type may not be the most reliable indicator of effects; cannabinoids, terpenes, method, amount and tolerance matter more.
