Wedding Cake Strain — Hybrid, 25% THC
What Wedding Cake Is
Wedding Cake is an indica-leaning hybrid from Seed Junky Genetics, and one of the most commercially successful cuts of the last decade. In Canada it is often sold as Pink Cookies.
The Name Covers Several Different Plants
This is the single most useful thing to know about Wedding Cake, and almost no listing says it.
The original is a #23 phenotype of Triangle Mints, which is Triangle Kush crossed with Animal Mints: the breeders’ own account describes a Triangle Kush mother and an Animal Mints male.
But the name now also covers seed reproductions, backcrosses, filial selections, autoflowers and unrelated breeder projects. Separately, a widely repeated account gives Wedding Cake as Cherry Pie × Girl Scout Cookies, and that describes a genuinely different cultivar carrying the same name, not a second ancestry for the original cut.
“Pink Cookies” is used inconsistently on top of all this, which adds another layer.
What That Means for Potency Figures
Reported THC runs 22% to 27%, with one consumer database giving 23–25% and a single Illinois batch review reporting 31.2%.
Because the name covers several cultivars, these numbers may not describe the same plant at all. That is a more useful explanation of the spread than averaging it away.
Where the Name Comes From
The name is not marketing invention. It traces to the vanilla frosting-like aroma that the Jungle Boys associated with the strain’s resin, a rare case of a dessert name describing something real rather than being chosen to sell.
It won Best Hybrid Flower at the 2018 SoCal High Times Medical Cannabis Cup, which is roughly when the name began fragmenting into the many versions now in circulation.
Aroma and Flavour
Vanilla and sweet are the most commonly reported notes, followed by earthy and citrus, with Leafly adding pepper and butter. Dominant terpenes are generally caryophyllene, limonene and myrcene; one profile instead gives myrcene, humulene and caryophyllene with a sourer, tangier character. Both circulate, which is consistent with the name covering several plants.
Reported Effects
Weedmaps lists relaxed, happy and euphoric as the top reported effects, with energetic, uplifted and creative also appearing. Leafly describes the overall character as mostly calming, and one producer listing calls it soothing and sedating: the heavier evening reputation. Leafly flags the THC as higher than average, so low-tolerance users should be careful.
How to Buy It Sensibly
Given the name covers multiple plants, the certificate of analysis matters more here than for most strains. A “Wedding Cake” at 31% and one at 22% are likely different cultivars rather than different grows of one.
Growing Wedding Cake
Flowering is 7 to 9 weeks, with outdoor harvests ready late September to early October; one seed bank gives 8 to 10. Difficulty is rated easy by one profile, described as suitable for new growers, which is unusual for a Cookies-family plant.
The practical issue is bulk. It grows thick foliage and dense, sticky buds, so the consistent advice is to prune regularly and keep it well ventilated; those dense buds are susceptible to mould. Humidity should be higher in vegetative growth and lower through bloom.
Indoor yields are reported at 500–550 g/m² with outdoor figures up to 600 g per plant. Note that Wedding Cake is more often sold as a clone than as seed, which is part of why the name has fragmented into so many versions.
What to Check When Buying
Dominant terpenes are given as caryophyllene, limonene and myrcene, producing sweet, vanilla and earthy notes; one profile instead lists myrcene, humulene and caryophyllene with a sourer, tangier, creamier character. Both are in circulation, which is consistent with the name covering several plants. Since potency figures span 22% to 31%, the lab result matters more here than for almost any other strain in this catalogue.
