What to Know About Cannabis Edibles

Eating or drinking cannabis takes longer to work than inhaling it. Health Canada says it can take up to two hours to begin feeling the effects and up to four hours to feel them fully, and that effects can last up to 12 hours, with some residual effects up to 24 hours. Ontario's guidance gives a similar window of 30 minutes to two hours before effects start.

Edibles sold in licensed Canadian stores are limited to 10 mg of THC per package. Many products listed by online dispensaries carry far more than that, so check the strength per piece before you start. The Canadian Centre on Substance Use and Addiction suggests a first-time user start with no more than 2.5 mg of THC and wait at least four hours before taking more.
